SEPT 24, BBIRATNAGAR. As many as 71 rape cases were recorded in the Eastern Region in the fiscal year 2012/2013.
According to statistics made available by the Women’s Rehabilitation Center (WOREC), a total of 47 incidents of rape, including eight gang rape, two marital rape, and seven attempted rape were registered in the region in that year. Similarly, seven cases of sexual exploitation occurred in the region during the year time.
WOREC programme coordinator, Manjita Upadhyay, said as many as 353 persons had suffered domestic violence during that period
