Chairman of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi is scheduled to leave Kathmandu for New York today leading the Nepali delegation to the 68th Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly that commenced on 17 September 2013 with the theme “Post-2015 Development Agenda: Setting the Stage” and other High-level meetings preceding the Session.
The Chairman is participating in the ongoing General Debate of the 68th Session of the GA and would deliver his statement in the General Assembly on 28 September 2013.
While in New York, Chairman Regmi is also scheduled to hold separate meetings with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Indian Prime Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh on 28 September.
He is also scheduled to interact with the Nepalese Community in New York on the same day in the evening.
This year the General Assembly will cover a broad range of subjects of global interests and concerns which, inter alia, include promotion of sustainable development and structural transformation in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the GA and recent UN Conferences, realization of the Millennium Development Goals and Other Internationally Agreed Development Goals for Persons with Disabilities, setting the stage for post-2015 Development agenda, maintenance of international peace and security, women’s economic empowerment for peace building, LDC graduation, international migration and development, promotion of human rights, effective coordination of humanitarian assistance efforts, promotion of justice and international law, nuclear disarmament, drug control, crime prevention and combating international terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and organizational, administrative and other matters.

The Chairman of the Council of Ministers will be accompanied his spouse Shanta Regmi, Prakash Regmi, Personal Secretary to the Chairman, and Kali Prasad Pokhrel, Chief of Protocol, among others.
Foreign Secretary Arjun Bahadur Thapa, Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations Durga Prasad Bhattarai, Uddhav Prasad Baskota, Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and other officials of the Nepalese Mission will join the delegation from New York.
The Chairman is scheduled to leave New York for Kathmandu on 29 September and arrive here on 01 October 2013.
