Police on Sunday arrested a doctor of the Biratnagar-based Nobel Medical College and Teaching Hospital on charges of sexual assault.
Relatives of a patient admitted at the hospital said Dr Sandip Jaisawal Chaudhary sexually harassed her while applying douche in her anus before surgery.
They claimed the doctor took her into a cabin, stripped off her clothes and assaulted her sexually.
The 38-year-old Dalit woman was admitted at the hospital on Saturday after she was diagnosed with gallstone.
DSP Dipak Pokharel said Dr Chaudhary was detained from the hospital based on a complaint lodged by the victim. An investigation is getting underway, he said.
Hospita’s Public Relations Officer Narayan Dahal said that the management suspended the accused doctor soon after the matter was brought to light.
Relatives of the victim have demanded that strong punishment be taken against the accused.
