KATHMANDU, SEP 24 - Expressing dissatisfaction over the government's refusal to roll back the hike in fuel prices, the agitating student unions have announced further protest programs on Tuesday. A meeting of the seventeen student unions held at ANNISU-R office today unveiled protest programmes for the coming three days.
Earlier today, the agitating student unions had given an ultimatum to the government until 4 PM in the afternoon to revise its earlier decision to increase the fuel price. Nepal Students Union spokesperson UP Lamichhane said that they were forced to announce further protests after the government did not pay heed to the 4 PM ultimatum.
According to Lamichhane, the student unions will stage protest demonstrations outside the government colleges across the country from 7-9 AM on September 25.
Likewise, the students are scheduled to picket the central NOC office at Babarmahal on September 26 and stage demonstrations outside the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar the following day.
On September 10, the state-owned oil monopoly had increased the price of petrol by Rs. 5 making it to Rs. 130 per liter. Likewise the prices of diesel and kerosene were also increased by Rs. 3.
Meanwhile, it has been learned that the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies is preparing to reduce the fuel prices by Rs. 2 per liter.
