Nepal Telecom Authority ( NTA ) has decided to give new mobile number and additional frequency to Smart Telecom which recently acquired Unified License. An NEA board on Thursday took the decision.
NTA Director Ananda Raj Khanal said Smart Telecom would be given frequency from 1800MH band. “It will get 12MH from the remaining 60MH considering the five players in the market” he said. “That’s why frequency allocation has been made even for them.”
Ncell has been provided 11MH and the NTA said it would provide additional 1MH if the company wants. The remaining two players including United Telecom Limited (UTL) and Nepal Satellite can also get the remaining frequency.
The NTA has also decided to give UTL the unified license, but UTL is yet to receive it. Nepal Satellite has not applied for the unified license.
An NTA source said Smart Telecom has also been given two numbers—8 and 9. These two numbers come after 98. This means mobile numbers of those subscribing to Smart Telecom will begin from 988 and 989. Ncell has got 0 and 1, while Nepal Telecom has got 4, 5 and 6.
