Nepal will take on Bahrain in its first match of the Group C qualifiers for AFC U-16 Championship at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on Wednesday while Iraq will lock horns with Turkmenistan in the tournament opener. The winners of all 10 groups and the best five runners-up will join host Thailand in the finals of the competition to be held next year. The coaches of all four teams in Group C, including host Nepal, have set the target of securing berth in the finals. Despite being drawn alongside Asian powerhouses like Iraq and Bahrain, Nepal´s coach Bal Gopal Maharjan is optimistic that his side will make it to the next round. "All three opponents are tough teams of Asia, but we have set the target of reaching the next round. The result of SAFF U-16 Championship has boosted the morale of the home team," Maharjan said at a pre-match conference on Tuesday. Host Nepal had finished runner-up in the recently held SAFF U-16 Championship. Maharjan described Bahrain as a strong team. "Bahrain is a fast and technically and tactically strong team," said Maharjan, who is eying a win or a draw in the first match. Bahrain coach Daniel Poyatos said that his team was in Nepal to qualify for the next stage and described Nepal as a good team. "Nepal is a good team and No 10 (skipper Bimal Gharti Magar) is good. It will be a difficult match for us," said Poyatos. "We want qualification for sure and we want to play well." Nepal´s coach Maharjan declared the final 23-member squad on Tuesday giving the captain´s responsibility to Gharti Magar for the first time. Forward Gharti Magar had scored five goals in the SAFF U-16 Championship and a crucial goal against Pakistan in the group stage of SAFF Championship. Maharjan has made four changes from the squad that played the SAFF U-16 Championship. He has included goalkeeper Srijan Shrestha replacing Abhilash Thapa, and Janom Man Ligal replacing winger Sujan Limbu, who is suffering from jaundice. Defender Ujjwal Chemjong has been replaced by Akash Thapa as Chemjong is also suffering from jaundice, while Sunil Bal has been included as the new forward. Talib Chloob, who has been in charge of the Iraq youth team for the last five years and guided them to two youth titles, said he hopes to win the qualifiers. The Iraq coach, however, vented ire blaming ANFA and AFC for poor accommodation facilities. Iraq will play against Turkmenistan in the opener Wednesday. Turkmenistan´s coach Ahmed Agamyradov said that he wanted his team to qualify for the next stage. "I would like to qualify for the next stage and it is the first tournament of this kind for the players," said Agamyradov. Stating that first match would be crucial in determining the team´s fate, Agamyradov said, "If the first match is not good we will try to gain experience from the tournament. We have a big responsibility as future players of the national team."
