Sirish Gurung set a new national record in men’s 200m individual medley in the Third NSA Nepal Ice Swimming Championship on Friday.
Gurung, representating Nepal Police Club, swam the distance in 2 minutes, 30.25 seconds breaking Sailesh Rana’s record of 2 minutes, 31.87 seconds.
Apart from that, Gurung also earned three more gold medals on the first day of the championship.
The teenage sensation grabbed gold in men’s 1,500m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 200m butterfly with the timing of 20 minutes, 57.97 seconds, 1 minute, 15.30 seconds and 2 minutes and 33.32 seconds respectively.
In the women’s category, Aditi Dhital of Lincoln School triumphed in women’s 1,500m free style after swimming the distance in 22 minutes, 43.8 seconds. Yan Kumari Ghale and Kishori Thapa Magar of Nepal Army finished second and third respectively.
Likewise, Shila Gurung of Xavier Academy finished 100m back stroke in 1 minute, 30 seconds for her gold medal while Jitjawali Maharjan of LA and Rashika Poudel of Pathshala Nepal Foundation stood second and third respectively.
Similarly, Bista sisters-Sonira and Sabbu finished first and second respectively in the women’s 50m breaststroke ahead of Poudel.
In the men’s category, Miraj Prajapati of Dhumbarahi prevailed. His timing of 36.35 seconds was enough to see him in the podium ahead of Karan Karki of Baba Boarding and Army’s Ripesh Chaudhary.
Sophia Shah timed 30.52 seconds to win women’s 50m freestyle and shared the podium with Shila and Poudel.
